Not much to say really, but that the animals live as close to all the land as is possible without causing neighborly quarrels. The large oak woods that give our farm its name produce abundant acorns, the very favorite food of all pigs. As well, they forage on wild cherries, beech nut and a lot of other things that I do not know the name of. Sometimes they are gone for several days, but when they return they are delighted to feed on a bit of junk food, mainly corn and hog pellets. They relish loaves of bread, fruit and vegetables left over from the table. It is not surprising then, that when this happy lifestyle comes to an end, the resultant pork is quite different from the sad white watery meat that comes from the intensively reared hogs of the factory farms. There are no antibiotics or hormones introduced at any point and that is true of our Devon Cattle too. We can provide pork for all occasions and needs.

ABOUT US |
|
Our Devon Cattle have a bit more confinement than do the pigs, but they too get around on occasion. Their bloodlines come mostly through the Lakota herd, built up over time by the Engh family of Virginia who have chosen carefully to introduce good genetics and the traits so necessary to produce cattle who fare well on grass alone. The Oak Hill herd is growing and developing its own characteristics as the years go by and we always have nice young stock to sell. Very occasionally we will have beef for sale from the farm. Come visit us and see some very nice animals. |
